St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, the lead organization of Mercer County Safe Kids, and FedEx Express sponsored Safe Kids Walk this Way Program on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Lawrence Intermediate School. The program is part of International Walk to School Day and the purpose of the event is to educate children, parents and teachers about pedestrian safety. It focused on how to walk to and from school safely and how to assess the walking conditions surrounding the school and identify hazardous conditions. Students were also able to sit in the driver’s seat of the FedEx vehicles so they could see first- hand how difficult it may be to see a child in front of the truck.
Participants included FedEx Express, St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Greater Mercer TMA, the Lawrenceville Police Department, Trenton Thunder and Sustainable Lawrence.
Following this program, the teachers and students will present their findings to the Lawrence Town Council.
